Unlocking Housing · how v1

How we come to believe a building is empty — and what the software is made of

One view for the software as a set of holons, one for the streams of inference that end in a claim on the map. Nothing here observes vacancy directly — every claim traces back to a source and a tier.

What the software is made of

Each ring contains the one below it and can be swapped without touching it. The kernel knows nothing about maps; the render layer knows nothing about housing; the apps know nothing about each other.

🏛️ Historical maps is an early version of giving historical context and thus enculturating and situating these houses in the long story of humanity.

How we come to believe a building is empty

Nothing here observes vacancy directly — the registers that do are closed to us. Every path is an inference with a different strength, and the map shows which one produced each claim.

Whose buildings are these — political, infrastructure, or bioregional?

Three different ways of drawing a boundary around the same physical buildings. Administrative and infrastructure boundaries are themselves political artefacts — drawn by treaties, administrations, and (sometimes) one country's decision and not its neighbour's — so we also offer a bioregional lens: watershed and Alpine-divide boundaries no parliament or rail company drew.

🏛️ Political — the default

Administrative boundaries: Gemeinde, Bezirk, country. This is what the region registry (regions.ts) already uses everywhere else on this site — e.g. the pilot corridor's five municipalities, Eisenerz to Kapfenberg.

🚆 Infrastructure

A boundary drawn by one piece of infrastructure's own reach — an impact envelope around a rail line, not an administrative border. Worked example: the Wien–Eisenerz rail axis, via Semmering and the historic Erzbergbahn, 10km on-axis.

🌱 Bioregional — the least political

Watershed and Alpine-divide boundaries. Worked example: the Mur river basin the corridor towns actually drain into — a boundary that cuts straight across the same Gemeinden and the same rail axis above.

Full reasoning, all three worked examples, and the honesty caveats on each → /methodology.
